After the first run:

My roomie’s thoughts on watching the Roomba finally dock with it’s charger: “Wow, I haven’t been that excited since the Moon landing!”

news @ nature.com-Electric currents boost brain powerbreaking science news headlines
Connecting a battery across the front of the head can boost verbal skills, says a team from the US National Institutes of Health.
If cell phone companies got wise to this, they’d start implanting little electrodes in those headsets and we’d finally have something good to say about cell phones.

Wired News: Pumping Up the Power of the IPod
Wired News tested a $40, high-capacity, 2,100 mAh (milliamp hour) replacement iPod battery from Newer Technology. It was easy to install and delivered 22 hours of continuous play — more than double the play time of the original battery. (The battery tested is for first- and second-generation iPods; Newer also sells one for third-generation iPods.)
Having become recently re-addicted to my iPod (an hour plus on BART daily will do that), I’m pretty sure I’ll be feeling the ills of a weak battery sooner rather than later…

Disk Tray is a Freeware utitlity that runs in the System Tray area of the task bar.
The tray icon has a red and green area which flash independently on hard disk activity.
One of those great little apps that makes me not hate Antec’s drive LED placement.

OIL FILTERS EXPOSED!
This is what I found when I opened a few motorcycle oil filters. I got the idea from similar research done on car filters. I had been a user of Fram filters on both my Honda Hawk and CBR900RR for at least 3 years, as well as my automobiles for the past few. After performing this little experiment, that usage has stopped, and I am attempting to spread the word about Fram filters.
An excellent dissection of several popular motorcycle oil filters discussing strengths and weaknesses. A must-read for cycling enthusiasts.

SawStop Home
This is a pretty slick technology - built into saws and similar tools, it detects changes in the capacitance of the blade (caused by, oh, contact with human flesh), and kill the blade’s rotation immediately. Be sure to check out the sample videos.

I observed an interesting phenomena the other day, I thought it was a short-term issue, but it still occurs….

Palm Software - Expert Guides
You know your Palm Powered device is a great calendar and address book. But if that’s all you use, you’re missing out on the best parts.
Leading Palm OS users have created guides to what you can do with a handheld or smartphone. Learn about software, e-books, websites, and a lot more.
As a regular Palm user (and former employee), I’ve got plenty of friends with Palms that come to me with questions about apps and usage. Only now did I find out that PalmSource themselves have one of the better resources (shame on you bad PR department!) for answers to these questions. LOTS of guides for people looking to do just about anything with their Palm, from Knitting to Dentistry to Scuba diving.

It seems everyone’s talking about Podcasting. I’ve still got my reservations (see below re:Observations from Gnomedex), but 0xDECAFBAD puts a bit of good context around it.

ghettoHARDWARE.com - Media Center Bathroom Extender
What I have done is repurposed a Xbox controller w/ built in LCD as a second display and controller for the Media Center PC in my bedroom. This allows me to change songs, pause, change volume etc.. without leaving the bathroom. I use it while reading a book in the bathtub. I would not recommend it for DVD or TV viewing as the screen is very small. I suppose it would suffice for TV programs where the image is not that important like a news program.
Now I’m not about to run a Windows Media Center PC, but what GhettoHardware highlights is the idea of using an XBox controller with a built-in screen as a remote control for a PC, complete with local visual display… I cant think of anything right now to do with that, but it sure sounds like it’s got possibilities.

Windows Server Reference Guide
In many respects, Windows XP Service Pack 2 is not really a patch as much as a replacement for the Windows client operating system. The principal purpose for this release was to address architectural issues regarding system security.
Informit.com has a rather informative article on one of the major changes that XP Service Pack 2 provides and why it might break some applications.
