Slashdot | Statistically Optimal Music
I’m blogging this because the audio streams are completely slashdotted and I want to hear WTF these people are talking about someday.

O’Reilly Network: Back to the Future: New Wi-Fi Bridges Use 1999 Standard
Wireless bridging comes in two forms: the one we’re accustomed to talking about generically, in which a Wi-Fi signal is bridged via an internal router in an access point or gateway to a wired network. The wired network can be as plain as a connection to an external or internal dial-up, DSL, or cable modem. Although this is often called wireless bridging, it’s really wireless-to-wired.
The second form is the “new” flavor, however: wireless-to-wireless bridging using the Wireless Distribution System (WDS). WDS allows packets to pass from one wireless access point to another, just as if the access points were ports on a wired Ethernet switch. WDS bypasses the kind of magical kludgery that Linksys offered with its WET11 bridge or with the WAP11 in pairs or as a bridge/AP combination.

Blogger and tech journalist Paul Boutin called for a Black Rock City version of Hipster Bingo, and you responded. BoingBoing reader Lev Johnson created the Burningman Bingo card, and here it is. Link to previous BB post, Discuss
Update: Numerous BoingBoing readers have e-mailed to ask why John Perry Barlow’s head was selected to represent “A Bad Trip” (shown at left) That is not John Perry Barlow’s head. That is Chuck Norris‘ head.

The Roomba, that robotic vacuum cleaner from iRobot, is getting a bump up in intelligence with two new smarter models: the Roomba Pro (pictured on the left), which can do spot cleaning and focus on cleaning just one specific area, and the Roomba Pro Elite (pictured on the right), which includes the extra capabilities of the Roomba Pro, but also comes with a remote control if you want to direct its cleaning yourself, and a special “MAX” mode for vacuuming high-traffic areas. Lockergnome Bits and Bytes - Week of 24 August 2003
I have family, friends and co-workers who also have a Series 2 Tivo, with HMO. We log unto each others IP address and stream each others MP3s, and pictures. Every once in a while I’ll get a phone call from one of them saying something to the effect of: “Hey Erick! Have you heard the new ?” I’ll in turn say “No”. Friend: “Log unto my IP with your TiVo and check it out.”. And so I’ll do that. Same things with pictures. They’ll tell me about a cool concert they went to that I missed, but they are able to share the pictures, all of this, without having to see each other. Just gotta log unto their IP address

AIM Manufacturing Videos
If you’ve ever wondered how things are made - products like candy, cars, airplanes, or bottles - or if you’ve been interested in manufacturing processes, like forging, casting, or injection molding, then you’ve come to the right place.

Faith in the game
Summary: What’s the difference between knowing something and just knowing the name of it? Some of the rifts that still exist decades after the Scopes Monkey Trial would be healed if only the faithful understood that scientists aren’t out to get them, and their methods didn’t come from the Devil.

TidBITS: Salling Clicker in Action
I cant believe I didn’t blog this before. Salling Clicker is a tool that allows you to trigger applescript events via bluetooth from a bluetooth enabled cell phone (I think currently only the T68). You can use it to turn you t68 into a remote, or even trigger an event when the phone comes within range. Very slick tool.

Warfare Incorporated
A stunningly detailed RTS game in the works for the Palm… I totally dig the Palm as a gaming platform - its relatively limited graphics and horsepower mean that developers can’t just rely on flashy pictures to hold the audiences attention. Makes me misty eyed for the early Apple ][ days…

Benny Benassi’s video for Satisfaction
Good lord! Great tools and the scantily clad women who wield them. The best Home Depot ad ever (not safe for work - requires Quicktime).

CSS Photo Zoom
After reading Pixy’s clever Fast rollovers, no preload needed method for using a single background image for multiple hover states, it got me thinking. What if the concept was used to offer a zoomed view of a thumbnail image, right inline on the page, again using a single image?
